The Cohansey Soccer Club has adopted a new Code of Conduct that all Recreational and Travel players, coaches, parents, and spectators must adhere to.  Below is the Code of Conduct and the Banning Policy that took effect in the Spring 2007 season.  PDF versions of these documents are also available here.

Banning Policy

The following Cohansey Soccer Club Code of Conduct is promulgated in accordance with the provisions of P.L. 2002, Chapter 74

Preamble:
Youth sports programs play an important role in promoting the physical, social and emotional development of children. It is therefore essential for parents, coaches and officials to encourage youth athletes to embrace the values of good sportsmanship. Moreover, adults involved in youth sports events should be models of good sportsmanship and should lead by example by demonstrating fairness, respect and self control.

I therefore pledge to be responsible for my words and actions while attending, coaching, officiating or participating in a youth sports event and shall conform my behavior to the following code of conduct:

  • I will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
  • I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
  • I will not engage in any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well being of any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
  • I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well being of any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
  • I will not use drugs or alcohol while at a youth sports event and will not attend, coach, officiate or participate in a youth sports event while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • I will not permit my child, or encourage any other person, to use drugs or alcohol at a youth sports event and will not permit my child, or encourage any other person, to attend, coach, officiate or participate in a youth sports event while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • I will not engage in the use of profanity.
  • I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in the use of profanity.
  • I will treat any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.
  • I will encourage my child to treat any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.
  • I will not engage in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
  • I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
  • I will not initiate a fight or scuffle with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
  • I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to initiate a fight or scuffle with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.

I hereby agree that if I fail to conform my conduct to the foregoing while attending, coaching, officiating or participating in a youth sports event I will be subject to disciplinary action, including but not limited to the following in any order or combination:

  • Verbal warning issued by CSC Official.
  • Written warning issued by CSC Official.
  • Suspension or immediate ejection from a youth sports event issued by a Club official who is authorized to issue such suspension or ejection by the CSC Board of Trustees.
  • Suspension from multiple youth sports events issued by CSC Board of Trustees.
  • Season suspension or multiple season suspension issued by the CSC Board of Trustees.

 The following policies regarding banning a person from a Cohansey Soccer Club event are promulgated in accordance with the provisions of P.L. 2002, Chapter 74.

Pursuant to the provisions of P.L. 2002, Chapter 74, the Cohansey Soccer Club may ban the presence of a person at a youth sports event in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • A coach, parent, player, participant, official or other youth sports event attendee who violates one or more of the provisions contained in the Cohansey Soccer Club (CSC) Code of Conduct may be banned from attending, coaching, officiating or participating in at least one youth sports event if the person;
    • a. has been issued a prior verbal or written warning for violating one or more of the provisions contained in the CSC Code of Conduct,
      b. violates the CSC Code of Conduct by engaging in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee, or
      c. violates the CSC Code of Conduct by initiating a fight or scuffle with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
      d. takes any action that, in the sole discretion of the Board of Trustees of the CSC, is so detrimental to the purposes or the policies of CSC, that the action requires the imposition of a ban from attending, coaching, and/or participating in any CSC event.
  • Any violation of items (b) – (d) shall not require the imposition of a verbal or written warning before the banning from attending, coaching, and/or participating in any CSC event.
  • A coach, parent, player, participant, official or other CSC event attendee may be permitted to attend, coach, officiate or participate in a youth sports event from which the person has been banned pursuant to the provisions of Section 1 of these Policies if the person;
    • a. provides a written request for permission to resume participation or attendance to the CSC Board of Trustees, which issued the ban and,
    • b. provides a written apology to the CSC Board of Trustees, which issued the ban, and to the person or persons who were the subject of the behavior which constituted the violation of the Code, as directed by the CSC Board of Trustees and,
    • c. demonstrates the completion, as required by the Cohansey Soccer Club policy, of an anger management counseling program which satisfies the provisions of Section 3 of these Policies, and
    • d. satisfies any other requirement set forth by the CSC Board of Trustees.
  • a. An anger management counseling program shall, at a minimum, offer services to individuals, singly or in groups, for the purposes of promoting anger control principles and shall be administered by an individual;
    • i. licensed as a professional counselor pursuant to the provisions of the "Professional Counselor Licensing Act," N.J.S.A. 45:813 33 et seq., or
    • ii. licensed as a practicing psychologist pursuant to the provisions for the "Practicing Psychology Licensing Act," N.J.S.A. 45:1413 1 et seq.

b. Nothing contained in this section shall prohibit the Cohansey Soccer Club from requiring a person banned pursuant to the provisions of these Policies to complete an anger management counseling program specified by such board or organization
